wanted you near
Wanted you around,
but we were so much
younger then,
look at us now.
What's your hurry?
I'm not rushing around
But I'm getting the message
from somewhere above
While the people just stare at the ground
Who's to reason?
Who's to say where's the sense?
Well, maybe you've seen the script
But you ain't read it
A choice left to no one,
at least not left up to me
The joke of laughter, the sorrows,
we're such funny,
funny people to see
You find you are waiting,
who waits for you?
Standing in a waiting place,
waiting for a waiter to await you
As a child I was 16,
I could say I was grown,
but it wouldn't have changed
even if I'd seen how very
little I'd known.
A crowd of people are swelling,
some are turning their heads,
I don't need this involvement,
I think I'll go home to bed.
We always kept it backstreet,
we'd never bring it out front
People said to me then,
I was hard of hearing
They had something to
say when they said
You find you are waiting,
who waits for you?
Standing in a waiting place,
waiting for a waiter to wake you
The poets seem to be liars,
they live in places we don't
They've got to listen more clearly,
to give the answers we want
Walking blindly, round and round,
over the top ourselves
Who's to reason,
who's to say where's the sense
For awaking and waiting
for something to come
When it's something that's
making you tense
There's nothing simple in trying
But it can be done by yourself
So wish me well in my troubles
An d drink a toast to my health
