The night
of nights of the so cial year
The rich and the influential are here
Come for the spectacle,
come one, come all
Tonight is the night of the
de butante's ball
The visiting dignitaries
marched through the
door
We all were upstanding
with respect and with
awe
The
Cardinal's outfit left no doubt at all
He had the best dress of
the de butante's ball
The mo
ment that all had been waiting for came
The
Debs and their partners
were called in by name
Like bulls at an auction they
were led round the hall
Nobody bid at the de butante's ball
The boys in their bow ties, the
Debs wearing
white
The women wore outfits
made just for the
night
The beautiful dresses of
the de butante's
ball
All one day lined the racks of
St
Vincent de
With formalities done with,
the band took the stage
Three hundred people
were ready to rage
From barn dance to waltzes
to old rock 'n 'roll
Young and old danced at
the de butante's ball
All the old -timers the
kids thought were lame
Got out on that dance floor
and put them to shame
Gliding and swirling all round the hall
While the kids trot on toes at the
debutante's ball
They called it a night at about half past two
A fair contingent that sunk quite a few
They fi nally staggered out of the hall
To go home and sleep off the
de butante's ball
They've had one for years
and they had one again
Different
Debs who look much the same
While I'm still trying to make
sense of it all
They're already planning
their next debutantes for
The night of nights of social year
The rich and the influential are here
Come for the spectacle,
come one, come all
Tonight is the night of the
de butante's ball
Tonight was the night of the
