The sun sets on one side,
and on the other it rises
the French, and all the rest
Have settled in to make our state
like a mitten on your hand
The painted turtle wander
Where state parks and forests
White vines and straight vines
planted long ago with care
over a hundred feet in the air
The apple blossom flowers
I'm smitten with the mitten,
With great lakes and great times,
in cars and boats we roam
If our insect was the love bug,
then surely I've been bitten.
I'm a Michigander, cause I'm smitten,
The green stone gem from Isle Royale
Is the crown jewel of an island unspoiled
can be found on it's beaches
With islands and waterfalls
It's a water winter wonderland,
The great lakes are awesome,
In our woods are wild turkey
Wildlife is plentiful an d
Where mastodons once roamed
And wolverines called home
The dwarf lake iris grows
I'm smitten with the mitten
With great lakes and great times
In cars and boats we roam
If our insect was the love bug
Then surely I've been bitten
I'm a Michigander cause I'm smitten
The robin's striking beauty
Is a sight we all treasure
Just like the fall colors
The brook trout swim about
throughout the state of fishermen's paradise and streams,
When it comes to automobiles,
Their wheels bring prosperity,
Our peninsulas can be seen
From the song of Hiawatha
Up the porcupine mountains
To the lake of the clouds
When north winds blow cold
I'm smitten with a mitten,
With great lakes and great times,
in cars and boats we roam
If our insect was the love bug,
then surely I've been bitten
