I painted dreams of years to come,
I drew the lines of my imaginary son
Just like a diary that waited for me
And promised more than I could dare believe
I painted faces from my dream
I chose the colors
that were far away from me
I prayed for stardust
that would show me the way I had
but that one dream to save the day
An d here I stand,
with no more dues to pay
I'm on my way,
I'm on my way
When I was down, when life was delayed
When I was on the ground
and saw that picture fade
When I felt lost, I learned to trust
The light that I had in me
And I painted dreams
I painted skies without a cloud
I drew a limit
that would make a dreamer proud
I filled that canvas
with my heart and my soul
I kept the fire burning
through the cold
And here I stand
With no more dues to pay
I'm on my way,
I'm on my way
When I was young,
when life was gray
When I was on the ground
and saw that picture fade
When I came close, I learned to trust
The light that I had in me,
an d I painted dreams
I watch that picture with a smile
I know that it came true,
if only for a while
And in that picture I can truly see
I see who I am
And why I painted dreams you
