Marcy's faucet needs a plumber,
Marcy's sorrow needs a bath.
Red is autumn, green is summer,
winds are turning at the sight.
All along the ocean beaches,
stairs up empty at the sky,
Marcy buys a bag of peaches
Falls to the sidewalk like spring
And brown paper winter blows
Up from the river, there's no one to take
Marcy dresses warm, it's snowing,
takes a passing cab uptown.
Red is stone and green's forgoing,
sees a show and rides back down.
All along the dirty river,
past the shipyards and the cove
Still no letters being delivered,
still the winter days are cold
Oh, like magazines fading
And sellers make a dream,
And hear how he tells her
She goes and doesn't tell us
Where and why she moved away
Red is angry, green is jealous
Black was all she had to say
Someone thought they saw her
Window shopping in the rain
Someone heard she bought her one way
It all went worse in the end
