In the good old days of travel
Out on the road to anywhere
without travelling variety show
Country singers, comedians
and side acts made a stand
Parade guitar with bass and drums
made up our three -piece band
And we'd travel this country
over in cars with caravans
On rocky roads with potholes
in black soil, mud or sand
With a lady there beside me
to help and share the load
The rock that I could lean on,
With signs of correspondence,
Not needing then a teacher,
they learnt well just the same
In a hall before showtime,
And we traveled this country
On rocky roads with potholes,
Oh, I will e 'er remember,
for in my mind I've stowed
The good years and the pleasures
Curtain calls in country halls
There used to be years' history
to the old ways they belong
But I will e 'er remember,
when these old eyes behold
The rock that I still lean on,
I love my lady, he loves his lady
My special lady, his special lady
