Atlanta to catch another flight
I am heading up north, back to
I'll be getting in the middle of the night
The sun is slowly sinking,
the runway lights are blinking
the wheels are lifting off the ground
Oh, there's no denying the
thrill I still feel in flying
Wilbur sure turn things upside down
I have travelled all these miles,
observing life here on the isle.
I've talked to lots of strangers,
sometimes they don't talk back.
But the two beside me are having a fine time,
toasting each other with white wine.
Now I ask, what's the occasion
And they say it's the anniversary
So of course now I am wondering,
Wanda leans over and says,
Okay, honey, try to guess
Well, this is kinda tricky
They're at least in their late sixties
Jack raises his plastic glass and says,
Who knew time could zoom by this fast?
We're toasting to 172 months today.
So I do the math in my head,
Calculate what he's just said,
But why not 14 years and 4 months?
And so I ask him why, and he says,
I just could not wait for a year to pass
Wanda leans over and says,
I turned and watched them walk away,
In love with a little old man
The lights below are twinkling
we're descending and I'm thinking nobody
is waiting for me at the gate but this
is the life I've chosen though sometimes
I feel frozen in my indecision I keep
giving in to fate. I'm chugging through the airport,
nothing is open at the phone
Everyone's gone home except the
sky cabs and the girls and the all -night
taxi drivers and one will get an extra fiver.
Vivi can help this sleepless
traveler get her baggage in the car. I do the math in my head,
They celebrate their anniversary
as every month rolls by and
With one thought in my brain
