Verse 1
the Lord has given me a
little illustration
that I'd like to apply with the
life of today.
For every day some mother's son
is leaving their families
and going overseas
to give their lives in Vietnam.
And today, just thinking of that,
I'm reminded of a little story,
a little illustration that I heard,
of a minister that had two children
and by the time the
every Sunday morning
he'd get up and he'd ask the
the prayer band union
to get together and pray that God
would bring the young man back home.
Every night before he'd go to bed,
and stay right there,
saying, Lord,
Well, amen.
One day, while sitting in
his pastor's study,

He went to the door to see who it was.
A young man was standing there
with a telegram in his hand.
As the old minister opened the telegram up,
The minister became discouraged.
He became tired.
Yes, he did.
He said to himself,
my son is dead.
The mothers kept on praying.
The choir members kept on praying.
His wife kept on praying.
His daughter kept on praying.
there came another knock
at the door.
Ab
Glory to God.
dressed in army attire,
they said brother pastor,
we hate to tell you this bad news,
my, my, my, my, my, my lord.
away from the door,
his head dropped in his shoulder,
other people have four and five sons,
why did you take my son?
He walked around moping,
glory be to God,
He forgot about the choir
members.
He forgot about his services.
glory to God.
About two weeks later,
while sitting in the pastor's study,
there came another knock at the door.
An old deacon stood there.
The minister said,
I don't want to be bothered.
The deacon said, I've got to talk with you.
The members want to know
what's wrong with you.
You've been walking around
and moping and groping.
You don't come
to prayer meeting anymore.
You don't preach on Sunday
anymore.
We want to know
what's wrong with you.
The old pastor got up from his seat,
laid his hand on the deacon's
down through the years.
I'd like to ask you a question.
my question.
The reason I'm like I am.
Answer me this
question, Brother Deacon.
When I was praying, where was God?
All of those days,
when your saints were praying,
The deacon stood there, head white,
From the cares of this old world,
Face wrinkled,
from carrying the burdens of this world,
Looked at that old preacher,
and said, Brother Pastor,
God was right where he was
when they took his only son.
They stretched him high
He was right where he was
when they took his son.
from judgment hall, to judgment hall.
he didn't have but one son.
He took that son
for the sins of this world.
thought about that thing,
and said to himself,
I've left the front line from fighting.
My son died on the battlefield,
men and women out there dying
right now, because I've left the church,
because I've stopped preaching,
battlefield.
I've got to go back to church
and repeat that I've been wrong,
repeat that I've done wrong.
the pastor made his way back to the church,
we don't sing it much anymore,
