Well, Richard the fisherman,
he hailed from old Rhode Island
he christened it Caroline
Shunk his hook and flung his line,
he brought local God to their knees
He sailed his old fishing ship
Made him enough to get by
And after a long day's work
Richard would read his book
He'd guzzle his beer and retire
Now Richard was a lonely man
He had no lover and no friends
He cleaned out himself in the sea
Just a blue -collar navy man
His heart cried out to be free
Well, out by the docks on the north
Richard was a -walkin' toward
A man with his own two eyes
Just for the sun did rise
A boy and a woman lay near
Are you alright, my dear?
A fisherman called me near
Thinking the lady was dead
I walked right to where he was
Putting a kiss on his head
The two of them lived a life
Peacefully without strife
Down in the Rhode Island Bay
And many years down the line
What a big catch he had made
