My grandma was born dirt poor,
when the days were worse than these.
Her daddy a rough diamond,
who was always hard to please.
She was dragged up by her fingernails,
but grew strong and grew wise.
However hard her life was,
she had softness in her eyes
She had hair of pure silver
She spoke pearls of wisdom
with each tale that she told
Her whole world's a palace,
she was loved and admired
She said she wanted for nothing,
but she had all she desired
She worked the land by hand,
and she raised her kids real well
Each one she was so proud of,
and her grandchildren as well
Her granddaddy died young,
and she had to do her best
now at last she is at rest
She had hair of pure silver,
She spoke pearls of wisdom,
in each tale that she told
she was loved and admired
She said she wanted for nothing,
Down the years we remember
what she gave to all of us
Never angry or complaining
She got on without a fuss
And the riches she bestowed to us
As great as they ever were
Each time that we think of her
She had hair of pure silver
She spoke pearls of wisdom
in each tale that she told
she was loved and admired
She said she wanted for nothing,
but she had all she desired
